3 little cows that won't go to market

Help Save 3 Cows from Being Slaughtered

"Hi to all of you,

I just found out that the 3 cows who graze on our land were scheduled to be slaughtered today. :( We asked the owner if he would consider selling the cows to us instead. He has agreed to that, but would need the money ($3600) in full in just 2 weeks.

We were hoping that he would take payments - and that would give us enough time to put a fundraiser together, but he wasn't willing to do that. We're just happy that he's given us a 2-week extension.

I am reaching out to you all and asking for help - mainly through donations. Also through networking and getting the word out to everyone you know. I just can't imagine not raising this money in time - they are only 2 years old and have many more years of happy lives to live.

The first step is to raise enough money to save them from being slaughtered. Then we will worry about raising money to care for them...

Thanks so much, you guys!

Jodi"

Eat more chicken............LOL. Are you sure that Chick-Fil-A is not behind this as some sort of advertizing gimmick?

JB how about those 3 cows get to continue to frolic through the grass, dine at their leisure vs. you dining on them. They want to save the 3 cows that have been noshing on their property- they have become attached to them and want to do something good. If that is beyond you....... well......

And nevermind that.... Because I just saw that they were supposed to be slaughtered (not shipped off).... just ignore me today!
amybdk amybdk 4 years 31 weeks
Sorry... that wasn't written well. If they are NOT saved, that is what will happen to them.

The cows that are being saved will be shipped off to a feedlot where they will feast on corn (I think over 30 pounds of corn a day) and then slaughtered.

I'm committed to eating local, wild caught and from cows farmed on the land and not in factories (okay well I'm mainly a seafood eater). Being a vegetarian can be just a detrimental to the environment as eating meat...ahem soybean crop. But I don't get the save the cows thing. I mean if those cows are actually eating grass instead of say corn products I'm sure they taste really good and are less likely to be carrying diseases... Wow, ^^^, that's a lot of incomplete sentences...even for me.

Drive through El Paso with the stock yards - that's depressing and stinky. I don't you will give up meat just be more choosey where you buy it and how it is treated prior to it being grilled with onions and served to you. Hug a cow.

I get that Haus. I am a vegetarian and even I can't read some of the stuff. It's too depressing

i mean, i know the mass food industry is not so great but i dont really want to read something that makes them out to be the devil... and i dont really want to read something that will scare me off of meat or make me feel guilty about eating it, you know?
hausfrau hausfrau 4 years 31 weeks
biased against the mass food industry or meat eating in general
amybdk amybdk 4 years 31 weeks
what do you mean by 'too heavy handly biased' exactly? I am not a big meat eater -- only pork and fish (I know... I know... the combination doesn't make sense), and very tiny amounts of beef. The book hasn't dissuaded me from eating it; however, it has made me decide to buy products that are fed food that is instinctive for them to eat.

I wanted to read that book Amy but I'm scared I won't want to eat meat again... plus I'm leery that it will be too heavy handly biased... do you find that to be the case?
amybdk amybdk 4 years 31 weeks
HIGHLY, Martini.

Amy, that book is sitting in my "to read" pile....do you recommend it?
samantha999 samantha999 4 years 31 weeks
The cows appreciate it :)

I'm reading The Omnivore's Delimma right now which talks about this.... I'm considering donating to the cause. Thanks Sam!
