I had a friend growing up who was Filipino. Her parents were exactly the same way. She was never allowed out in the sun for too long. If we played in the kiddie pool it had to be in the shade
to I agree Jess Ness, in asian cultures, white skin is ideal... i remember in the summer time my grandmother would get mad at me because i was always out swimming or going to the beach.. she would yell at me that i was getting "TOO DARK! " and she seemed to favor my lighter skinned (pale I would say) cousin. Ugh. I didn't care, i LOVED being tanned. I think its nice and shows more muscle definition which naturally makes u look leaner. :)
There are so many cultures that have that mentality.
A lot of Chicano/Latino/Hispanic culture ligther skin is valued. Specially during times like the 60's during the Chicano Civil Rights movement. Parents wanted their kids to blend in better with the white culture so they pushed them to be lighter
Also African American/ Black seems to have the same thoughts about lighter skin being more beautiful
i wish i had lighter skin and light eyes ahah
im east indian
but true,
but there are other successful indian actresses that are darker and dark eyed
alot actually
ppl are begining not to like her
so more powa to the darker ones
ahahah
but yes thats considered most beautiful in indiaaa
shitty for me
:P
Indian culture like a lot of cultures believe beauty in women is light skin and light eyes. So even though I think she is gorgeous I just dont think she is a good representation of Indian beauty- there are so many beautiful darker skinned Indian girls but they will probably never be as famous in things like Bollywood as she has become
