America loves Dick Cheney

All of a sudden, people seem to like former Vice President Dick Cheney. Oh, sure, most Americans still don't hold the man in high regard, but at a time when he's suddenly become more visible than he was at times during his term in office, his favorability in one poll has gone up.

In a new CNN poll, 37 percent of respondents said they have a favorable opinion of the former vice president, compared to 55 percent who said they have an unfavorable opinion of him. That's not exactly going to win him any popularity contests any time soon, but it's a significant difference from the last time CNN asked the question, just before the end of the Bush administration. At the time, just 29 percent of respondents said their opinion of him was favorable, while 58 percent had an unfavorable opinion of him.

It might appear that the rise in Cheney's numbers is due to his recent outspokenness, but CNN's polling director, Keating Holland, says he doesn't think that's the case.

"Is Cheney's uptick due to his visibility as one of the most outspoken critics of the Obama administration? Almost certainly not," Holland says. "Former President George W. Bush's favorable rating rose six points in that same time period, and Bush has not given a single public speech since he left office."

I don't get it! Lately, it has been my impression that people have become very turned off by Cheney and his "outspokenness". Why do you attribute the rising poll numbers to?

Amy, sorry I completely forgot I said I'd look this up. This is the first story about the assassination squad that I saw: http://www.minnpost.com/ericblackblog/2009/03/11/7310/investigative_reporter_seymour_hersh_describes_executive_assassination_ring and here's an interview he did on it: http://www.alternet.org/rights/134347/seymour_hersh:_secret_u.s._forces_carried_out_assassinations_in_'a_lot_of'_countries,_including_in_latin_america/

Lemme look Amy - he mentioned it in a speech in Minnesota about two weeks ago, he calls it a story in process.

I know not of this Seymour Hersh story Steph. Do you have a source to recommend?
stephley stephley 5 years 17 weeks
I can't wait for the Seymour Hersh story on assassination squads to come out. Cheney's getting as much as he can out before there actually are investigations of what was done -that way, people will have Cheney's version of the facts as the 'known story'.

On the national level the GOP is looking for a "leader" of sorts...at least that's what the papers are making it out to be. It's the perfect time for a bloated-ego to make its way to the top. Dick Cheney has what Limbaugh doesn't...some form of legitimacy. Dick Cheney has what Steel doesn't...some form of a "backbone". Dick Cheney has what Jindal doesn't...experience and history. Dick Cheney could never and apparently will never shut-up.

That's scary Woop - they are in desperate search of a leader though.

People who don't like Obama are desperate for someone they can stand behind.

They were talking on NPR today about how Obama and Cheney were to be speaking about foreign policy/terrorist threats basically at the same time, different venues. The whole time all I could think was, "who the HELL still cares about what Cheney has to say??" The man was a disaster in a crypt keeper suit.

Or people didn't want to admit they didn't know who they were being asked about. :rotfl:

Stupidity or CNN rigged the poll. Or people like that he's confronting the issue even if he's a murdering, money-grubbing b@$t@rd. Or people didn't want to admit they didn't know who they were being asked about.
