Beauty Product Nostalgia

Melizzle just posted an entry asking when we first became beauty product junkies. There were a couple of responses, including mine, that mentioned Bonne Bell Lipsmackers. Bonne Bell is still around, but when I was a kid, it was just the coolest thing if you had a Bonne Bell Lipsmacker in your purse. I said that my sister liked to wear Baby Luv perfume, but then I realized that I had gotten the name wrong: it was Love's Baby Soft.

Then I started thinking about when Apri Apricot scrub first showed up. Prior to this I washed my face with Dial soap. The concept of exfoliation was pretty new. Then there was Sea Breeze toner. That was a new one when I was a kid. Before that my sisters used witch hazel straight from the bottle. Actually, one of my sisters has returned to using witch hazel straight from the bottle. She also makes her own face creams and such.

So what beauty product are you nostalgic about? Or what beauty product "revolution" do you remember taking place when you were a kid?

I loved Love's Baby Soft, then I got hooked on Jean Nate'. I remember thinking it was exotic and French (I was very proud to be French)! I remember my mom giving me some blush that didn't work out for her and our coloring was/is different but of course I didn't know that in 6th grade. I just thought I was cool because I had orange blush. No one ever told me how to put it on or that it's not attractive to see orange stripes on each cheek. LOL!

My Mom had White Diamonds and the other perfumes in that collection - I loved the Emerald and Ruby ones. :) I loved all the LipSmackers - particularly in flavors like Root Beer or Dr. Pepper.

I had all of the above, AND Electic Youth perfume by no other than Debbie Gibson. Oh yeah!! I also remember going in and stealing squirts of my Mom's Liz Claiborne in the triangle bottle.

O wow! I remember selling a ton of that at my first job. Was always WAY to strong for me, plus I have never understood the appeal of smelling like a baby's butt.

ohmigosh!! love's baby soft!!! i HAD this. and i totally used seabreeze on my face which, by the way, DON'T USE!!!! it totally strips the skin of moisture and can actually CAUSE breakouts. but aaaaanyway, i think the beauty products i'm most nostaligc about are sunflower perfume and cover girl pressed powder compacts.i used both in sixth grade, when i just started getting into makeup, and i totally remember the smell of the cover girl compact. i also remember them always shattering in my backpack and having to get new ones! and sunflower!! e-ver-y girl in sixth grade wore it. it was the early 90s and sooo popular. i kinda wish i still had some. it really did smell nice. great post!

So cute, all your memories! I remember at 14 when I lived in Greece, (after we left Romania and before we moved to the US) my mom and I discovered these mini perfumes by BIC. I don't know if it was the same company that made the pens. :? When we moved to the US I remember liking Charlie and Exclamation perfume! :D Anyone used those?

Do they still make LipSmackers in the Vanilla (or maybe it was vanilla frosting) flavor? That stuff straight up smelled like Pillsbury frosting. It made me a very happy twelver year old.

When I was 5yrs old I remember my mom giving me a Bonne Bell lip gloss & lipsmacker (i think dr.pepper?) and from then on I've been hooked on beauty products. Although I've loved nail polish since I was 3-4yrs old; my mom used to paint my nails light pink and then I started my own nail polish collection when I was 7 (the "it" nail polish color to wear then was baby blue or gold (I still remember painting my nails in gold with Tony 'n' Tina's nail polish, lol.) My first perfume was White Musk when I was 8; before that my mom used to spritz a bit of her Opium perfume on me before we left the house; At 5yrs old, I felt to grown-up wearing her perfume, lol.

For the one month that I was a girl scout, they preached the benefits of Love's Baby Soft as a good mosquito repellant.

Oh dear, I feel out of the loop - the only thing that was definitely "cool" makeup-wise when I was a kid was Lip Smackers. They had just come out with the glittery variety, if I recall correctly. That, and Revlon StreetWear makeup - hot pink glittery nailpolish and lilac glitter eyeshadow. I thought I was SO cool. (I wasn't.) :-p

My mom has Sweet Honesty, my dad bought it for her about a year ago. It was the first perfume he bought her when they started dating in the early 80s. I guess it's sentimental for both of them. He always buys her perfume though, tons and she loves it, she's never bought her own fragrances.
