I needed more shelving in my daughter's room, but I didn't want to go with a boring white shelf so I searched Craigslist daily until I found something unique enough to meet my needs. I ended up scoring this awesome cabinet and shelving unit. On one side of the top piece is a cork board and on the other side is a chalkboard. The entire top swivels around the bottom cabinet, which is an added bonus. It was in nearly new condition and, not to mention, solid wood — the only problem was the color. My daughter's room is all white and pink. Oak just would not do. So I rolled up my sleeves, disassembled it, sanded it, primed it, and painted it white.
While the piece was OK in the natural color wood (and I was having second thoughts after the first coat of primer), I absolutely love it all white. It only took one day to complete and the chalkboard and cork board look brand new against the bright white. It's a big piece of furniture, but it fits amazingly into my little one's girly-girl room. Not only was the project dirt cheap, but the cabinet has proven to be perfect for my busy toddler, who's already gotten hours of entertainment from it.
