Blondeyy's Crushed Almond Caramel Apples!
This is a fun twist to the plain caramel apple and just as easy!
6 Granny Smith apples or McIntosh Apples
6 wooden sticks
2 tbsp water
1 *14oz* package of wrapped caramels. Unwrap.
3 cups crushed almonds
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1/8 tsp almond extract (if desired)
Insert wooden sticks 3/4 of the way into the stem end of each apple.
Put apples on a cookie sheet covered with lightly greased aluminum foil.
In a saucepan over low heat - combine water and caramels.
Stirring often, cook until caramels melt and become smooth.
Stir in the vanilla and/or almond extract.
Dip apples one by one into the caramel and run apples gently around insides of saucepan to rid excess caramel.
Scrape excess caramel from the apple bottoms using the lip of the saucepan.
Spread the crushed almonds out on wax paper or a large plate. Roll the apples in the mixture to coat. Place on the aluminum foil and chill.
