Ingredients

2 cups all purpose flour
1 T. baking powder
1/2 tsp. baking soda
1/2 tsp. salt
1/2 cup shortening
1 cup buttermilk

Directions

Sift or stir all dry ingredients together. Cut in shortening with a pastry blender. Add buttermilk all at once,stir until it is all moistened. Turn out onto a clean flat surface (or cutting board) that has been dusted with a generous amount of flour. Knead a few times so it forms a soft smooth ball but don't over handle the dough or the biscuits will be tough. Roll gently with a rolling pin or pat with hands to aprox. 3/4 inch, then cut into medium size rounds. Place on a cookie sheet and bake in a 450 degree oven for aprox. 10 minutes or until just starting to brown around the edges.
