Calf Pain

Omigod. I wish I'd known that flexing and/or pointing my toes would lead to excruciating calf pains. Last night I flexed my toes and cried out in pain scaring my husband. I called my sister and she experienced the same thing. Has anyone else?

Muscle cramps are usually a result of low potassium and bananas are a good source, but not enough if you have it really bad. I work out and perspire heavily, causing potassium loss, so I take a supplement pill. Problem solved.

Well, I am glad that you have lessened calf pain, 'cause that was certainly a miserable part of my pregnancy. I hate pickles and pickle juice, but I'd learn to like it to work against that late-night annoyance in the future.

I was suprised too!

Having mild pain again in my left calf, been like this for a few days, going to try the pickle route and hope it does the trick! Thanks for the tip. :-)

Does it matter sour or sweet pickles? I'm not pregnant... but I have had excruciating leg cramps before and it'd be nice to know what to do instead of cry :P

OMG I forgot all about those! YES I use to get them in my sleep and practically cry for about 10 min until the pain went away.

:ROTFL: Jenny, sound like something I'd do too!

Well I remember going home after I found out about this cure and buying a super sized jar and seriously eating them in like a 2 weeks span! :ROTFL:

Pickles are something that I have been eating throughout my whole pregnancy, maybe that is why I haven't has any problems... yet

Good thing is that I LOVE pickles :PEPINO: So I'll make sure we have plenty on hand if the cramping comes. I hope it works for you C!

Hey - I'll try that!

I think it has something to do with the sodium or some stuff.

That's really interesting! I'd heard that eating bananas works, but not pickles. I don't like pickles, but to lessen those atrocious cramps, I might try the pickle juice trick with the next pregnancy...

Okay - you are going to think I am crazy, but if you eat pickles the cramps will either disappear or be very mild. Mine were horrendous - I told a friend and she gave me this trick and it actually worked! Apparently they even give pickle juice to athletes to help them avoid cramping during a performance.

Haven't had them yet, and really don't want to!

Last night I tried the banana trick. I experience mild pains. Massaging in the middle of the night is tough. I end up walking around. What's funny (not really) is that I want to stretch them out but know I can't so it becomes this mind game.

In my last trimester, I was up at least three nights a week walking and stretching out horrible cramps in my calves. They would wake me up. :( DRC - I tried massaging mine, but it was too painful. Some nights, they were so intense that the muscle would be terribly sore the next day - as if I'd spent three hours on a StairMaster or something. It was ridiculous.

Oh man that's terrible! I hope I don't get those. How about massaging them? Will that make them worse too?

I'll try the banana trick. I know they are suppose to be good for cramps. Last night's was unreal. I had to jump out of bed, haven't done that in awhile, and walk it off.

:JAWDROP: I thought that that's what you're suppose to do?! (Flex) My friend at work experienced this calf cramping most nights and she ate a banana and drank water before bed and it helped.
