Can I inherit my parents' debts?

My father is in his eighties and is not in very good health. Last year he was involved in a car accident where he injured another woman. The woman is now suing my parents. My father has car insurance, but not enough to cover the claim. My parents have no savings, their only asset is their house (which is not worth very much) and pensions. If my father passes away before the lawsuit is settled, would my husband and I inherit the debt from the lawsuit? Any advice you have at all on this subject would be greatly appreciated.

I don't think you can inherit their debt but with that said if they have a lot of debt and some property or something value, their creditors might take that as payment like a house, car, etc. Good luck and that must be tough.
