Could You Have Fun at a Wedding Without Alcohol?

This story was written by member TresAnnie and comes from the Wedding Talk group in the YumSugar Community.

I recently attended a friend's wedding in France. Both the bride and groom originally come from Turkey, so they followed many of the Turkish wedding traditions. On the Thursday before the wedding, they held a big party to prepare the bride, which felt almost like a wedding itself!

There was a DJ, dancing, and food, but one thing was noticeably missing: alcohol. The hosts and many of the guests were Muslim, so it's not customary for them to to have alcohol at parties. Without a glass of champagne, it definitely took an extra effort to mingle with strangers or get out on the dance floor, but I did appreciate the lack of hangover the next day. The bride and groom did however provide alcohol at the wedding, where the Raki was flowing all night (for those who wanted it). Seemed like a good compromise to me!

Absolutely. You don't always need alcohol in order to have a good time, and I do mean at any event.

My husband and I do not drink and so we did not have alcohol at our wedding. We had sparkling cider for our toast and that was it. There was a band, a dj, and lots of dancing and fun. Upon departing, one guest with a very apparent beer belly mentioned that our reception was one of the most fun he ever had at a wedding- EVEN WITHOUT the alcohol. :<) With today's brides trying to save on wedding cost, it is an easy way to cut back on the cost without takng away from the overall ambience of the affair. I am helping a family member plan a wedding and if her guest really want to drink, they will gather for an after-party or congregate at a nearby bar to continue the fun. Besides, if they are really your famly and close friends, they will all understand either way.
