It's Not a Baby Shower Without a Diaper Cake!

Baby Cakes: Crazy Creepy or Crazy Cute?

"What's my baby doing on the cake platter taking a nap?" Oh snap! That's a cake! Every baby shower deserves a special dessert but these er... take the cake? Forget the diaper cakes or the diabetic friendly flower pastry. Shower hosts can serve up a frosted newborn on a silver platter.

On the hilarious and ubercreative blog spot Cake Wrecks, we found some unsettling baby confections. What could be creepy about a baby cake? Well for starters, some of them have a doll buried under icing making it look more like a deathbed than a bassinet. And what happens when it comes time to eat the dessert? No guest wants to see the sugary lil toes sliced off for their nibbling pleasure. The bakers are certainly skilled in the decorating department, but maybe a crib full of stuffed toys would have done the trick.

What do you think about these babylicious cakes?

Absolutely creepy! I wouldn't be able to be in the same room with these cakes, let alone eat any of them.

For me, cakes have come a long way from what they used to be... 20+ years ago. Round, square, sheet cakes of various sizes with vanilla, chocolate frosting (decorated/plain) & similar cake flavors. Where I live, those & ice cream cakes are the ones I see. But nowadays, they are "masterpieces" representing people, places & things of cake inside & fondant to cover them. - I watch "Cake Boss" & "Ace of Cakes" - The creations they come up with are incredible! For example, one of the cakes was a monster "Kung Fu Panda" cake that was made for one of the movie's premieres; another was a roulette wheel that actually spun & dropped the fondant ball onto the numbered disks - fondant poker chips were provided to "drop" on the numbers BEFORE spinning the wheel, of course... - That said... I wouldn't be able to consume one of these because of the babies & "cutting" them up! Better to keep them as mementos of the happy occasion like that piece of wedding cake... Bring it out of the freezer every few months/years & say: "The Greatest Day of My Life!"

I love cake, I might be able to eat it if I don't look at it.

Most definatly creepy...funny...but still creepy. whatsupcupca...I think the idea of the prego cake is even a bit more creepy...but again funny. I think my older family members would pass out if I had one of these.

lol I know of a bakery that does a cake in the shape of the prego mother (you provide a picture). When you slice the cake stomach there's a little plastic baby toy inside. It's sick but it's funny to see at a shower.

lol, i think they're creepy, but in a funny way. Especially the one with feet that look more like turds.. haha. The one with the laying baby pretty funny too, because you eventually have to serve the cheeks.

I can't stomach a baby cake — especially this pregnant!

Since i have a macabre sense of humor, I would totally get one of these, the one with the baby naked preferably, red velvet cake inside.

I'm not one to refuse cake but this is a bit creepy . . . I'll take a slice of the bassinet part, thanks.
