Did You See/Understand The Lake House? Help Me. (Spoiler Alert!)

I watched the Lakehouse starring Keanu Reeves and Sandra Bullock a while back.

Today at lunch I got to rewatch the ending. I need help, lol.

As I understand the premise, Sandra Bullock (Kate) and Keanu Reeves (Alex) are communicating but they are separated by 2 years time. She is in 2006 and he in still in 2004. I can suspend belief, no problem, I watch network television. But it has to add up, and there’s something I don’t understand.

They are two years apart, but time is progressing naturally for both. When they arrange the date at Il Mare, he makes the reservations two years and one day ahead, for her, it’s one days time.

When Kate is in the architectural firm at the end, she sees the picture of the lake house and asks about it. Is it not supposed to be 2006 then? But she is told Alex died two years earlier, which would it 2004.

Shouldn’t it be 2008 for Kate’s character?

Kate also tells Alex about the accident that kills him, although she doesn’t realize it’s him at the time. Since she speaks of it, it’s already happened right?
But at the end she is sitting there, on Valentines day 2006? She isn’t a time traveler, so how does this happen?

Or am I confused?

i really liked this movie. the dog and henry exist in both time periods just as each of us were alive yesterday and today; our former self and our current self. the tree was planted 2 years before it appeared for kate because keanu's character planted it in his time. so say monday she wrote saying "i miss tree's" he plants the tree that night and the next day when kate sees the tree it's been growing for 2 years. they were to meet at the restaurant but he died. it's 2008 when she is in the office, finds that he died, how he died and drives to the lake house. once there she leaves the note in the mail box telling him not to meet her that day on the plaza. thinking she failed to reach him in time; that he died she falls on the ground and cries. but he HAD gotten her note in time (2 years prior) and driven to the lake house to meet her. i heard the japanese version was better, but i liked this one.

lol Peep, and to think I watched it 2.5 times to figure it out, and I'm still not sure what year they would be in together. :oy: There's some unintentional funny lines in it though, or maybe its just the acting. :) ------------------------------------------------------ Wenty's got a nice ass eh?

Okay, I actually had the chance to watch the Lake House again. Alex’s accident is what forces Kate to find solace at the Lakehouse. So his death is the beginning of their friendship, or what indirectly causes them to “meet”. Firstly, I don’t understand how they both have Jack, but they do. Kate describes Jack, and tells Alex the dog’s name. The dog reacts when he calls the dog Jack. Time progresses naturally for both people, but what Alex does affects what happens in 2006. For example, writing the graffiti on the wall, for Kate to find on the “walk”. He plants a tree in 2004, and the small tree instantly shelters Kate from the rain in 2006. The book Persuasion that she leaves behind at the train station is a nice touch, but she must have an incredible memory to recall the day and time she left a book behind two years ago. Not to mention the fact she finds the book at the Lakehouse later. We’ll let that one go. We are correct about the restaurant. He makes the reservation at Il Mare for 2 years and one day’s time, but its only one day for Kate. He doesn’t show up, well, because he’s dead from the accident. It makes sense up to a certain point. Henry is with Alex in 2006. Henry is a pivotal character at this point. He reminds Alex it is Valentines Day, the year is 2006, so Alex goes to the Plaza to see Kate. BUT Henry is also in 2008 with Kate and Morgan at the architectural firm, and tells Kate his brother Alex died two years ago. How can Henry be in both years at the same time. How does Alex get the letter at the LakeHouse to warn him, if he already left the Lakehouse. Due to Kates warning, Alex prevents himself being killed in 2006, but since their time runs parallel, he still dead in 2008? When they finally meet in the end at the mailbox at the Lakehouse, what year is it for them? 2008 or 2006? ------------------------------------------------------ Wenty's got a nice ass eh?

Wow - I regret clicking on this! The movie made sense to me when I watched it, but reading this made me think, "Did it really make sense to me?" And then my brain started to hurt. :rotfl:

Ok, it has been a while since I've seen it, I think when she finds out about his death it's two years later, so she goes (in 2008) to write the letter to him (who is now up to her old self in 2006) to keep him from dying in the accident. So, at the firm, it's 2008 for her - 2006 for him going to see the 2006 her he was supposed to meet up with.

I've seen it but it's been a while. I think she was in present day and writing him from the past. When he made the arrangements for the resturant, it was in the near future for her and in the distant future for him. Make sense? Probably not, lol It's been a year or so since I've seen it.

I just thought maybe he had something to do with the time travel...Who knows, I liked the movie but did NOT understand it at all! :ROTFL:

Weirdly the dog is at the LakeHouse for both their stays, but I'm not sure now how that ties in. He was apparently named Jack in reference to Keanu's Speed character name. ------------------------------------------------------ Wenty's got a nice ass eh?

For some reason I thought that the dog had something to do with it. :?

I saw the movie but being that it was with Sandra Bullock I didn't devote to much thinking into it. I just assumed she had changed the future - or the past??? - and then I went to sleep :-) __________________________ In da club with my hommies

I didn't know if I messed something up. I risked an explanation but it could confuse me more, lol. I don't know if the movie is worth watching again to figure it out. :oy: ------------------------------------------------------ Wenty's got a nice ass eh?

I remember this movie, and it made sense at the time. I even asked my hubby (he watched it with me) but, neither of us can remember how it made sense. :( I wish, I (we) could have helped you.
