Can you see the child's face??Can you see the child's face??

As promised to Aud and Whip last night in chat here are a few pictures of the Exorcist steps in Georgetown. The Exorcist is one of my older brother's favorite movies but I don't want to be so scared that I peep my pants so I haven't gotten up the nerve to watch it yet even though I love scary movies. I have actually been to these steps 3 times since I have lived here but I didn't have my camera the first time. The following pictures are from my second and third trips.

I had read online that the house that they actually used as a background for the outside scenes was in the same area and I knew that my brother would be super excited if I got pictures of it. The people that used to live in the house got so sick of all the fans after the movie came out that they put a large privacy fence around the house to keep them out. When my mom came to visit last October (the first picture) we ventured down to Georgetown to see the steps and look for the house. It was already starting to get dark out and after we climbed all 75 steps we weren't having much luck locating the house. We finally ran into someone and asked them where it was, we had just walked past it. So we went back up the hill and saw it; the gate to the fence was open so we decided to be nosy nelly's and try to get a quick picture. As we were fixing to go in a guy came out and said that yes it was the house and to come on in and take a look. STUPID STUPID STUPID as we were we went on in; he kept trying to lure us further in deeper into the yard that was very dimly lit. We got extremely creeped out so we high tailed it out of there quick, fast, and in a hurry! We couldn't believe that we were stupid enough to actually go in there. After looking around online today I came to find out that we weren't even at the right house! The actual house used is immediately to the left at the top of the steps and we were at a house that was a few doors down to the right side.

An aerial pic to show just how steep and creepy they are. (I did not take this picture, it came from about.com)An aerial pic to show just how steep and creepy they are. (I did not take this picture, it came from about.com)

From about.com:
The spooky Exorcist Steps in Georgetown are sure to give you the creeps...not to mention a good cardio workout if you decide to tackle them. The Exorcist Steps
36th Street between Prospect Street and M Street

Although no ghosts have been spotted there, the Exorcist Steps played a major part in one of the creepiest modern day ghost stories of all time. The 97 very steep and treacherous stone steps were the scene of two violent deaths in the 1973 blockbuster movie, The Exorcist. Prior to the release of the movie, the steps, which were always considered to have a haunted feeling, were called the Hitchcock Steps.

Visitors to Georgetown enjoy seeing the steps and the nearby house used in the movie at 3600 Prospect Street. In the movie, it appears as if the windows of the house look down upon the steps, which in reality is not the case. The house is actually about a block away from the entrance of the steps. Nevertheless, the Exorcist Steps are eerie, spooky and fun to see, although not a good idea for anyone who suffers from vertigo.

Here are a couple of videos that I found on You Tube:

Here is something that would be neat to check out: Old Stone House Museum. Built in 1795 by Christopher Layman, this old farmhouse is haunted by eleven ghosts. The most active has been dubbed "George." He haunts the third-floor bedroom and has a violent hatred of women. George has been accused of shoving, strangling, knifing, and even raping women who venture into his room. Residents and visitors to the house, which is now a museum, have reported encountering his malevolent presence several times. Another ghost here is a lady wearing a brown, 1700s-style dress. She is seen near the fireplace. The phantom of a young woman, with tight ringlets in her hair, has been seen running up and down the staircase. The apparition of a stout woman in an antebellum gown is seen on the staircase and in the kitchen. Also seen in the kitchen area is the ghost of a man wearing short pants with long stockings. A man with long, dark blond hair, wearing a blue jacket, once materialized near a front room window. The wraith of a small boy named "Joey" has been seen running up and down the third-floor hallway, and a little black boy has also appeared there. A German carpenter, thought to be the ghost of Christopher Layman, has been reported in the house. Many people observed a Colonial gentleman who partially materialized in the master bedroom. Another unidentified Colonial man has been seen on the second-floor. The upper floors of this house were used by families living on the property, while the lower floors were rented out to travelers. In the 1930s, the house became a bordello, and then it was used as an auto shop. The National Park Service acquired the property in 1950 and restored most of the building. (The three-story, L-shaped Old Stone House has been restored and is now a museum operated by the National Park Service. Old Stone House Museum, 3051 M Street Northwest,Washington, DC 20007. I commented on Momo's brightened version of this before I saw this post. Oops. Even with it circled and labeled, I can't see a face. But I totally see what's in the blue box.

Yeah I doubt that it will be part of your tour Aud. They do have a haunted tour that my mom and I went to last October when she was here. I don't really remember a lot of the stories since it was outside and there was a pretty large group but I do have some pics of the White House at night and you can see a lot of orbs. Once I find them I will post them here.

I don't see the kid's face; but you can't see the person's face because they are looking up towards the stairs like they are going up. What is wrong with my grammar in that last post! **There was no** not this was no.
