Fur Coats

Rich Girls love fur. But do you go real or fake. I personally love real fur but I also hate to think of the little animals that it came from. So do you follow your conscious and go with faux or do you feel like hey, I eat meat so why not wear fur.

Real, definitely. I think it's ok to wear it, after all, it's the same as eating meat, we're killing an animal for our needs/wants...Please don't do that 'Wearing real fur is discriminating animals/encouraging others' if, say, Lily Allen wore fur I could understand that others may go and invest in some themselves but one person wearing wont make the whole world wear it.

Fake all the way for me but I'd never wear a fur coat as such. I just do small details here and there so it's not a problem when it gets wet etc. I'd just like to point out that the animals have already died in vain, literally; because of our vanity. Therefore not using a "vintage" fur item of clothing would not mean they died "completely" in vain. They're dead. They can't die any more. Consider this: Your wearing your vintage fur item of clothing inspires others to invest in fur. You don't invest in it but are actively encouraging it by wearing it, therefore making a fashion statement. One that says "wearing real fur is OK". Now, is it OK to wear it?

It's such a tricky subject! I wanted to wear a mink coat that has been passed down through my family, and all my friends were outraged and said I was disgusting (I didn't wear it as the peer-pressure was too much!) I didn't kill the little minks and it was done a LONG time ago as it was inherited - if you're not actually purchasing it and thus supporting the killing cycle, and it's vintage, is it ok to wear it? I'm an animal lover and would never want to advocate death for my pleasure, but what's done is done and it's a shame that if someone doesn't wear it, they've died completely in vain... I find faux fur gets matted when it's wet and then smells funny, so that's a no-go for me too! :)

real fur is very beautiful but where it comes from and how people get it is obviouly not a good thing at all. Pam Dz is right, well atleast to me, fake fur can look a little cheap sometimes and (to me mostly Americans) people are very wasteful and take advantage of "little" things they have just because they can buy more, like paper for instance.

Fake is better for me. fur is dead...

What about people who buy alligator shoes and crocodile belts and snakeskin bags, are they wrong too if they don't eat these animals? Or is it okay to kill these animals because they aren't cute like your cat? If you are queasy about wearing fur, then fine. Say you don't like where fur comes from. But don't say it's wrong. Because, from an evolutionary viewpoint, it's survival of the fittest and humans are at the front of that race. Believe me, I get it, Humans are cruel; we eat veal so baby lambs don't have the chance to grow up, we eat eggs harvested from live fish, and we kill animals before they naturally die so we have our Thanksgiving turkeys & Easter hams. So please don't be a hypocrite denouncing wearing fur unless you can magically transform the human race into vegetarians/vegans. BTW, some parts of the world eat cats/horses/bugs (and any animal protein that is not toxic). You shouldn't condemn anyone because you don't eat these animals due to your psychological reasons.

Wearing fur by an animal that is only killed for its fur is wrong. We do not eat the meat of the animals that are made into fur clothing. These animals are killed only for their fur and has nothing to do with food, leather or part of the food chain. I would never wear nor eat my cat:)

I love to wear real fur, but I can take fake fur in very very very small doses (i.e. small pompoms on a mitten or something). I agree with the argument that I eat meat (being on top of the food chain and all), therefore I shouldn't have qualms about wearing fur. Also, if you think about it, the popularity of leather far surpasses fur, yet I hear so many people protesting the wearing of fur but not so many when it comes to leather. I often wonder if it is because PETA is more afraid of all-leather clad bikers than they are of fur wearing old ladies?

I don't like either. The real is nasty... to think where it came from. Plus I am pretty sure the fur from the coats doe not come from the same animal that someone eats... we are very wasteful people. The fake fur is tacky to me unless in small doses like trim on a bag.

Fake, of course, just take a look how animals are killed and decide. =[

kamathpriyanka, I think you are one to something with that jersey dress!!! I think that a fur shrug or cape would be simply darling with that dress!!! Whacha think!?

I don't like both much. There is something "ew" about like... cotton plush fur, but then again, I would feel a little overdone if I was wearing real fur. It's a tricky thing to pull off, especially when my Grandma has this huge floor-length mink coat.

Exactly! I eat meat so I would wear the fur. It is only fair to use every part of an animal. Also, something kinda... ew about faux fur.
