The Future of Betty Draper...

Since Season 1 of Mad Men, Betty Draper has been a central character and a favorite to many. While in the Draper household, her role was primarily of a wife and mother, but things have changed as the plot unfolds. Since her split with Don and new relationship with Henry Francis, she has become more of a minor character. Betty's children are having a little more screen time, but the focus on Betty has considerably diminished. What does this mean for her character on the show? Will there perhaps be two separate story lines (one of the Betty/Henry Francis household and another of Sterling Cooper Price) or even a spin-off? Please discuss!

I think she's gradually going to become exactly what you said, a minor role. She's gone through her angst, she's gone through her drama, and I think that the writers know to keep putting Betty as the center of drama is a bad idea.

^ Agreed. I'm really hoping they show what the boys who didn't go to the new firm are up to! As for Betty, I think that they're doing a great job of showing how awkward divorce can be. Don and Betty don't hold any real animosity towards each other, but they still place the blame on each other for the end of their marriage and how the change in situation is affecting the kids. Ex: Don was angry when he couldn't even see Gene and Betty basically says "it's your own fault". Even though the parents aren't at each others throats, the kids are still caught in the middle and it provides a lot of heart-wrenching (letter to Santa) and sticky (Betty and Francis being late) moments that are true of every divorce. They're provided a lot of reasons for Betty and Henry to move out of the house, so I think we will be seeing a double household (the new Francis residence & Don's apartment) and the original Draper residence will be sold.

It seems to me like a lot of the characters have been getting less screen time, but I'm hoping the love will be spread over the later episodes.
