Yesterday, my husband and I had a pretty rough morning (something about me starting to clean the bathroom, then taking a phone call and um...forgetting to get back to the bathroom) which really sucked because we were supposed to be going to Chicago. To my GREAT surprise, we were able to pull it together (while trying to get the two kids and the puppy ready for a night at Nana's) just in time to get on the road by 3 (dangerously close for an 8 o'clock show - thank God for the time change). We ended up having the most AWESOME time ever. We had great conversation on the way there and only encountered traffic once we got into the Chicago city-limits. We got there in enough time to check into the hotel (We decided to simplify our lives and stay at the Hotel Allegro, which is adjacent to the Cadillac Palace), change into our "grown-up" clothes (i was so cute - and sick that I didn't have Trell take a picture for my look book), eat a scrumptious meal at 312, also adjacent to the theatre ( I had this wonderful seafood risotto and Trell had some kick-ass salmon ) and get to our seats comfortably. We had great seats and the show was spectacular (although Michelle Williams was just not believable to me as Shug Avery - everyone else was so perfect, I can forgive that). We then had drinks at Encore (also adjacent to the hotel, restaurant, and theatre) before retiring to our room. We woke at the crack of dawn to make the drive back to see our kids (Cookie included) and had great conversation on the way back. It was just a simple overnight trip, but we had alot of opportunities to reconnect with each other and I am extremely grateful for the experience. I think we are going to try to plan more outings like this where we go somewhere, but don't try to pack too much into it. Everything worked out in this case even though we had very limited time in Chicago, because everything we did was basically in the same place. We then got home and got back to the rest of our family, rejuvenated, recharged, and back on the same team. I am just so happy right now!!!
