Healthy and Smart Grocery Shopping

Personally, I love Trader Joes.
Not sure if everyone has one in their area, but basically it is a Whole Foods type store at 1/2 the ridiculous prices at Whole Foods. The organics are great at TJs...the fruit is fresh, the cheeses and meats are savory and the best cuts and aged just right. They ALWAYS have plenty of things to sample (my hubby's favorite part of the trip), and you can basically ask to try anything you are not that sure about (in moderation of course).
So what about you...do you like the pricey organic stores, a more family friendly and small store like Trader Joes, or just your run of the mill Krogers.

I don't have a Trader Joes in my area but I checked out their web site once and it looked like a nice place to shop. I live in such a small town though that we probably will never get one either :( I do most of my shopping at Kroger especially since it's right on my way home and 1 mile from my house but it's so expensive! I've found though since we've recently gotten a new Super Wal-Mart that they are a lot cheaper on the grocery items that I buy than Kroger, it's just so much more of a hassle sometimes and since I'm always in such a rush to get home when I leave work to get home and start my second job I don't always make the time, which I just need to chill out and do. I make my own hours at home jeesh, LOL!

I like food from Publix and Wegmans. Neither of the two are near me so I just shop at Giant.

I like Mrs.Greens, Wild Oats and Food For Thought. I love buying healthy food.

Depending on what I'm buying I'll go to different super markets. Trader Joe's for flowers, cheeses, and wine; Safeway for basics like tortilla chips and soda; G&G (local market) for spices, hard to find ingredients and alcohol, and Whole Foods for premade food, bulk grains, and olives.

I buy some of my fruit and veggies at Whole Foods, because they're cheaper than Trader Joe's and the selection is fifty times better. Everything else, Trader Joe's and Vons. Albertsons too, if the sale is good that week.

What I wouldn't do for a Whole Foods or Holiday Market in my neighborhood. I always have to drive like 3o minutes for good groceries and truth be told, Whole Foods prices are not that much higher (if they are higher at all because in some cases they are not) than the grocery store in 'da hood'.
