Shoe cabinet transformation from boring to interesting
I am one of those who prefer to take off their shoes in the entryway, so that it can be a no shoe zone in the bedroom, but the problem I faced was the lack of shoe cabinet designs in USA...well, at least, in my price range that is. So, I had to take things into my own hands and make something out of one of the boring, basic, plain cabinets that I could get my hands on... IKEA, it was.
This has been my proudest D.I.Y. project to date. I tackled it about a year ago, and still love it. Basically, I bought two cheap shoe cabinets that have very narrow depths which meant they would not eat any footage of my entryway. I then installed 3-D wall covers, that come in paintable white, onto the cabinet doors, then I painted them with the same green paint as my walls, and I spray painted the visible wood particle parts of the cabinets with a green hue slightly lighter than the wall paint, so the cabinets became two-toned, even though it may not be that visible in the picture. By choosing the wall paint as the primary color, they look blended into the wall, like an extension. I then put in some cute daisy shaped aluminum knobs, and voila.
