The crisp Autumn air has many families heading to orchards to pull some apples off the trees. This annual rite of Fall has tots literally hanging from the branches, as they reach for the perfect piece of fruit. After an afternoon of apple picking with my family, we're working our way through a variety of apple recipes, trying to use up our bushel before they rot. We've already made:

I still have half a bushel of apples sitting in my kitchen and want to know: what's your family's favorite apple recipe?

The pancake apple taco (above comment) is a good idea. It doesn't get any easier or more fall festive than apple crisp. Both my mom and my husband's mom make killer apple crisp. I only have my mom's recipe so I'll share that: Put 5-6 apples pared and sliced in a greased 8 x 8 pan. Mix together in a medium bowl 1 cup flour, 1 tsp baking powder, 3/4 tsp salt, 1 cup sugar, and 1 egg. Pour over apples. Melt 1 stick of butter and pour over top of the mixture. Sprinkle with cinnamon or apple pie spice. Bake 30 minutes at 350 degrees or until apples are tender. Pour cream over individual pieces before serving. Yum.

My kids love apples dipped in peanut butter and apple cake their grandmother makes!

This isn't a fancy recipe, but my son made this over the weekend and loved it. Take a pancake, spread a thin layer of peanut butter on it, then take thinly sliced apple wedges and put them on top before folding the pancake like a taco and eating it.
