I credit the Vietnamese dining experiences of my childhood to my undying love of banh mi. So when Bun Mee — a local San Francisco eatery dedicated to all things banh mi — opened in the neighborhood next door, I became a frequent customer. Although the sandwiches are smaller than the ones you'd find at a Vietnamese sandwich shop, and the prices are about 60 percent higher, I quickly discovered it's well worth it. The bread (which I later discovered is couriered in from San Jose every morning) is Vietnamese-style Parisian baguette perfection, and the fillings all have some sort of a contemporary twist. Check out some of my favorites from recent drop-ins.
