More Than Embarrassing


Okay so I'm just going to get on with this story without any long intros.

Everyone farts. It's a fact of life. Passing gas, Cutting the cheese, letting one rip, barking spiders - whatever you call it, everyone does it.

And in a yoga class, you're moving your body, twisting and stretching every which way possible, it's bound to get things moving.

Most of the time, you can either hold it in, or release in such a way that doesn't single you out (you know what I mean).

But in this case - there way no holding back - no way to hide.

I was taking an Ashtanga Yoga class, doing second series. The pose was called Dwi Pada Sirsana - which translates to "2 legs behind the head."

This pose is hard enough to get into, without worrying about embarrassing yourself in the process. My instructor saw that I almost had it, so she kindly came and sat down behind me to give me an assist. What happened next was more embarrassing than all my embarrassing moments combined.

She shimmied close to me, so she was basically straddling me from behind. She reached for my right leg and gently pulled it back behind my neck and whoops - what was that noise? OMG - that did not just happen.

I played it off and made no comment, so everyone would think it was someone else. It seemed to work. Then she pulled my left leg back and - Whoops - not AGAIN. There's no playing off 2 in a row. Everyone knew it was me. I was devastated.

At the time, the painful memories were more than the pain of my hamstrings. And now, whenever I think about it, I just shake my head and laugh because everyone must have a story like this.

I skipped today because I had to be at work so early.. I'm kind of on and off with it lately!? My schedule's been wonky so.. I definitely need to make sure I do it at least 6 dys a week!

Yoga TOTALLY kicks your ass! I only do power/ashtanga- if i ever get my ass to class. It gave me back the body I had in high school. and you can laugh at me cause I'm not Fit.

YES - it totally does. You hardly stop moving. You do a pose for 5 breaths and then do what's called a "vinyasa" in between - all that moving really keeps you warm. I don't like gentle yoga classes really either - I'm there to move.

dang! i commented and it got lost :mob: anyway yayi, my colleague who has very bad tyroid (sp?) took yoga classes once a wk regularly and now its under control and she doesnt even have to take her meds anymore! it worked wonders for her, plus it calms you down spiritually/mentally/emotionally, and at this time and age, we need that!! but i still think taebo is an awesome work out. i should probably download some, but im so lazy! :( i wish i could buy a sand bag, i'd totally box these flabby arms away :mob:

Yayi you are such a toolbag! Yoga is amazing, its great exercise, its good for stress and relaxation, it tones and its aerobic, it improves patience.. so many things!
