New Jersey Turnpike
Okay, this isn't really a drink recipe, it's mostly a bit of bar folklore that I grew up with in Jersey (where I lived until my early 20's, when I moved to Philly).
Apparently, the New Jersey Turnpike is a shot that can only be done at closing time (and it's always on the house). The bartender takes either their bar mat or bar rag and pours or wrings all the residue into a shot glass. If you're lucky, you end up with a little bit of every liquor, beer, and mixer that spilled onto the bar. But there's also the chance of having to drink cigarette ash, saliva, and other oogy things.
I know nobody who's actually DONE a NJ Turnpike but everyone I know says they have a friend of a friend who's done one. Gross.
So, not really a drink recipe, but a funny little blurb about a shot from my home state.
