New Years Eve: Dick Clark

I have grown up watching the ball drop on New Years with Dick Clark.  This year seeing how changed he is by illness and age...it made me appreciate my health and strength more....but saddened me as well.   While this may have nothing to do with fashion at all...Dick Clark is an ICON which has made a huge impact on the American Music Industry.
I applaud the TV industry for keeping him on the show...but it was sad to see Dick Clark so changed.  Just something I had to say....just not sure where to say it.

I kinda miss Dick Clark too. I haven't watch it in years though.

Ryan did most of it and then they'd occasionally go to Dick for a few comments. Those comments were painfully pulled from him, hard to understand and as my husband would say..."looked like a drunk Soupy Sales doing a really bad Dick Clark imitation." I feel bad just typing that but it was painfully true.

Who in the world hosted that show last night anyway? I forgot who introduced Britney Spears.

Yeah, they've been grooming Ryan Seacrest since last year. I remember seeing Dick Clark with Ryan last year on the show. It was sad to watch him then because Dick looked so sick, he could barely speak straight even though his thoughts were focused. I can't imagine what he's looking like nowadays. The two times I tuned in I didn't see Ryan Seacrest or Dick Clark at all.

Dick Clark was there last night. He looked like himself but he sounded terrible. His stroke really took away a lot of him. His humor was still there but his struggle to just form words was painful to watch. I applaud them for still supporting him...and knowing what he has gone thru I know he had worked very hard to gain his speech again after his stroke but he is forever changed by it. It made me really think about how blessed I am and thankful that my year has not been as tramatic as his. Still, it saddened me. It made me think of my own frailty. My birthday is in a couple weeks...and I am close enough to Dick Clark in age that it struck me hard. By the grace of God I am strong. This last year has been brutal for him and it was revealed explicitly in his telecast on NY Eve. On some level I feel guilty to say I wish Dick had not gone on the program. I guess it hit too close to home for me. Ryan Seacrest seems to be getting groomed to take Dick Clark's place. Nobody can take Dick Clark's place.

I don't watch it in full anymore since there's no Dick Clark. I think a lot of people feel that way now. Too much as changed and it's NOT good either. I tuned in twice. I saw Britney Spears perform...or I should say lip sing. And then I left and came back right as the ball was dropping. I then left again. So I guess I watched probably about a total of 5 minutes. When Dick Clark was around I would watch the whole thing. I would just turn the sound down if there was someone singing that I didn't want to hear.
