Nightlife vs. Land of Nod

Would you live next to a mega nightclub?Would you live next to a mega nightclub?

We are about to rent a house in a nice quiet neighborhood. Rentals in this area are scarce so we need to put an application and deposit in immediately..here is the rub. The house literally sit off of the parking lot for a Factory Stores of America mall. Fantastic we thought..we can walk with the kids in the stroller to the cute little mall. Well maybe not. On everyone's lawn in the quiet little neighborhood were signs.. stop the Hurricane! So I look it up when I got home. Club Owners want to buy the mall and turn it into a 19,000 square foot nightclub. 19,000! It will have 3 bars and beach theme dance floor, a 12 foot volcano, a karaoke bar with backup singers and costumes and call fit up to 1500 people nightly until 2 am. HHHmmm. Now the club owners claim that they are geared for an older crowd..no hip hop is played. That it is all 70's and 80's music. 19,000 sq ft?

Across from our current house we have a cute little bar maybe 2000 sq ft..the Regal Beagle. No noise but plenty of squealing tires and people driving across a major street to park in our neighborhood to make out and occasionally smoke pot. The neighborhood has had vehicles broken into and/or stolen.

The new neighborhood..there is no way to get to it without almost circling what will become a mega club. Plus the neighborhood is on the parking lot. no major street to buffer the noise, traffic and possible crime? And we have two children under 4. And three vehicles and only a 2 car garage. So at least one car will be outside all the time. What would you do? Would you live across from a mega club? Here is a satalite view..see where it says homes..see where is says 19,000 sq ft nightclub? HHHmmmm

No way. If I understand you correctly and your house is right on the edge of the parking lot, just like everybody else said, you're going to be dealing with drunks who will be driving, puking, passing out, being loud, etc. What a bummer since you guys were so excited about the house! :( You might be able to stand it for six months or so, like you said, but I wouldn't be able to bear it. I'm a :fogey: won't stand for anything but peace and quiet when I'm at home.

Wouldn't do it.

Run like hell! the parking nightmare alone would be enough for me. People will be parking all over the place, drunk driving into your mailbox, wandering through the yards, and I don't care if they are playing Yani, the decibles it would take to fill that club will spill out into the surrounding areas.

I used to work for a Landscape Architecture firm. If a company wanted to make significant changes to their land, it has to first be approved by the city planners, then they have to hold a public meeting. I'm sure there are similar regulations for the use of public buildings as well. Ima, try calling your city's planners to find out if it is even a real possibility or not.

There is no way in hell I would do it... I pretty much like quiet places to live at

3Sweet, Good morning! :) You brought up a good point...I can't believe the city/county counsel would let this happen either.

No way... I couldn't imagine all the people. It would be one thing if it was smaller which would mean less people. and trying to get into and out of your house on the busy nights could be hell.

Hell no! I can't believe that the county commissioners would even allow it to happen in that neighborhood. It looks like a total family area!

yeesh! Pesonally, I need peace & quiet when I'm at home. (otherwise I'm tempted to go out & party if there is one right friggen there). it IS nice to be able to walk to a bar or club, but with kids around... I dunno. maybe if you think it won't really happen anytime soon it might be worth it...

The way I saw it was..a 12 month lease scenario.. even if the zoning change request goes thru the homeowners lawyers will appeal. Then the construction to change it from a mall to a nightclub..that always takes longer than anticipated, plus hire and train employees then at least two months to get hopping.. so we are probably looking at 6 months at the earliest to get busy and annoying. By then we have 6 months left on the lease. And are more than likely going to be in the position to buy a home by then..if not sooner. and what if it isn't a pain in the ass.. what if it is fun and we can get a babysitter and walk across the street for costumed backup singer karaoke or comedy night..I am trying to be positive ..this is against my nature..someone stop me!!!

When i was in college I lived in an area where college houses were interspersed with regular, cute, expensive homes. The people were always frustrated. Now that I have been out for two years I understand why. Espcailly if you have kids, it's a disaster waiting to happen. TINA!

I erased the vote when I added the satellite view of the site. The vote was like 3 no way in hells to 2 more info needed :) The homeowners of this community are rabid!!! They are pissed! They have even hired a lawyer to fight this and a city councilman lives in the neighborhood and is not too pleased. The owners are freaking out cause if they can't stop it..they are going to have a hard time selling their homes to get away from it..which will in effect lower the property value of the homes. And if it is considered a crime factor insurance for this area will go up as well. It is a lose lose for the little community but an overall win for the city since it will bring in sales tax dollars and provide jobs.. so we will see what happens. The decision supposedly comes down on Feb 15th.

Plus, even if they're SAYING it's geared towards older people, most older people aren't into that kind of stuff. After a few months, when the club starts failing and they change it to a hip-hop/techno club, all the young kids will come out and then it'll be a nightmare.

Oooh, no. I wouldn't. That's a BIG club and would have a LOT of people. Fights, puke, passed out runkards in your yard, plus all the things you already mentioned... No way.

Oh dang! That not a little nightclub! Well, I would definitely need some more info.. and it would all depend on my life situation. If I, like you, had a family with kiddos.. No way! But if I were living with my girlfriend.. Maybe.. ^^ ______________________________________ \Don't chase the beat of your heart/
