Can You Bike No-Handed?

Back in junior high, riding your bike no-handed was an essential skill. It was beyond cool to clap when singing John Cougar Mellencamp's "Jack and Diane" while biking with a posse of like-minded girls. As I've aged, I've lost my chops and maybe gained some fear; I like to bike keeping at least one hand connected to my bike. But I have been inspired by the pros in the Tour de France — the double arm-pumping after winning a stage, but also two-handed tasks like handling a bag of food or removing a layer of clothes — to regain my lost youth this lost skill.

I am working on riding sans hands on my quiet, slightly sloped street and hopefully I will get the hang of it soon. What about you?

It took me 20 years to perfect riding with one hand... One day I'll be able to do no hands!

Even if you said yes, that may not be true for a racing bike. These bikes are so sensitive and your weight is so far forward. No hands on one of these bikes is incredible impressive.

When I was a kid I could, and still could on a mountain bike! But on my road bike, I think it would be way harder. I haven't really tried, but I guess I should.
Hell yeah! I am a pro riding it to class from my apartment with no hand or even to CVS around turns!

It takes practice and an ability to let go of whatever fear you have of going no handed. I can't remember when I started going no handed. It just happened when I was very little.

I'm a horrible biker. I can't bike no-handed, or even standing up. :-( I want to change that! Does it just take practice? I just don't get it!

Hell no, I can barely ride a bike let alone go no handed. :scared:

i remember living in the netherlands, people would eat, chat on cell phones, read etc whilst riding a bike using no hands; i think they treat their bikes like a car!

No, but I've tried and tried and have always wanted to. My hubby can ride and even turn with no hands. It's amazing to me.
