Poll: Adding On To The Family

My husband and I are getting to that stage in our relationship where we're starting to talk a little more seriously about having children and adding to our family. We're a little more financially secure, have a few years of marriage under our belt, and recently we bought kittens and the little guys have softened my poor husband so much, I think that he's teetering on the cliff of being ready to be a dad.

So, here's my question - how soon into your marriage did you start having kids?

(And if anyone wants to, in the comments, I'd love to know how long you two had been together/in a relationship and how old you were when you started adding on to your family. And if you wish that you'd waited - or not waited so long!)

There was one class in high school where there was another Heidi. That was it. I always felt sorry for my sister - she was always Sarah W. :)

Exactly. Nothing embarrassing, but I also don't want my kid to have to answer to "John P" rather than just his name. :)

Cool site! I'm so irritated though because apparently all the names I like have gotten more popular recently. Argh! You made up a name? That's too cool. I sort of play with names already in existence, but that's about it. Like Caeyla - it's like Kayla but I could pronounce it differently. Awww, I like the name Nathaniel. :) I hadn't thought about that with Noah! It was my top boy name until I heard that it was in the Top 10 Boys Names for 2007. Nuts!

I actually though I made Samara up but then I watched The Ring 2..and the little girl in the well is Samara, though pronouced differently. I found an awesome site for baby names.. here it is: http://www.babynamewizard.com/namevoyager/lnv0105.html They have a book too, fyi! Don't use Noah, LOL!!! It is very confusing when the child is younger and you say "No"... I really like Nathan but every Nathan I knew growing up was the devil... LOL!

John's family is Michael, Matthew, Marc, and then John. (Whose middle name starts with M) Two of our nephews are Andrew and Matthew. I like Simon (See the N?), Noah, and Gabriel. And we can't do P names because that's what our last name starts with! So no Paul, no Peter. And my dad is Patrick and I wanted to use that, but nooooooooooooooooooo. Natalia is a gorgeous name. Reminds me of that girl from Saved By the Bell The New Class. I always think if I have a Christmas baby girl I love Natalie. :) Samara is a pretty one! Where'd you hear that? I also love Irish Names - I swear the first thing I'm doing when I find out I'm pregnant is buying a baby name book and highlighting it. :)

Natalia, which could be Italian too.. I have heard that it comes from Spanish and Italian decents. My fav is Samara, sounds like Sam-era. Yeah you cannot even shorten it to Gwen, still the darn N LOL!! My family stuck with a lot of religious names too.. Michael, David, Rebekah... But my mom and sister are out there LOL!

I like a lot of the really old-fashioned girls' names. Like Gwendolyn. See! That darned "N"! My husband's family is mostly biblical with their boys' names and I'd like to stick to that tradition, even if I mix up the spelling. What latino-ish names do you like?

I have a mixture of new and some older... a lot have a latin background and I am far from being a latino. I am casper the friendly ghost LOL! So I don't know how well it would fit.

I'm so pathetic. I have a list! Boys and girls...But our last name ends with a strong "N" and I like a lot of names that do the same - and they don't work together! I like the old fashioned girlie names...what about you?

Definitely not being nosy. If I didn't want you to read it, I wouldn't post it here! I'm the over-analyzer, the organized soul, and the obsessor around our house. Once I get caught up in something, it's all I can think about for awhile and it has to get done right then. When we first got married, John told me that I wasn't allowed to talk about children, babies, or baby names until I was 25! Hehe. He should have said 26! I'm a baby name fiend...

You girls are so wonderful, and I'm so excited for you. It makes me laugh to read your discussion (sorry to be nosy) b/c my husband is such a planner, and I'm the one who's kind of like Homer Simpson, he says "why did you do that" and my usual answer is " I guess I wasn't thinking" I'm a bit impulsive I guess, but we balance each other out *Thank you. Well, I'm not supposed to know this (but I work in a hive of gossip and rumor so I do), but 2 other people applied besides myself. One of them didn't put in all the required documents, so they already don't get it. So this other woman and I have to interview (unless she's vastly underqualified) and I'm hoping we can get the interviews in next week. Hoping to find out today! See, and I figure that I have my pre-natal vitamins appt February 4. Hopefully I will be in a new position then. (Crossing my fingers) We can start trying 2-3 months later, so that by the time I actually HAVE the baby, I'll have had a full year in this job and will get an automatic annual promotion.
