Pop Culture Challenge #223: Joseph Gordon-Levitt & Zooey Deschanel
Hi everyone! Welcome to another week of Pop Culture Challenge. As you can see in the announcement below, our theme this month is "My Funny Valentine". To kick off this lovely month, I've chosen a rom-com couple that we all wish were a real life couple (but sadly they're just good friends): Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Zooey Deschanel.
Joseph Gordon-Levitt is an American actor, director, producer, and writer. As a child star, he was known as Tommy Solomon in the TV series 3rd Rock from the Sun. He took a break from acting to study at Columbia University, but dropped out in 2004 to pursue acting again. He has since starred in (500) Days of Summer, Inception, 50/50, Premium Rush, Looper, and many more. Zooey Deschanel is an American actress, musician, and singer-songwriter. In 1999, Deschanel made her film debut in Mumford, followed by Almost Famous. Deschanel soon became known for her "Manic Pixie Dream Girl"roles in films such as Elf, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, and (500) Days of Summer. She currently stars in the Fox series New Girl.
They first starred in a movie together in Manic, but they didn't become a "rom-com" couple until they starred as one in the sleeper hit (500) Days of Summer. Their chemistry was undeniable in the movie, and in 2011 they did a duet of What Are You Doing New Year's Eve? for Deschanel's website HelloGiggles which garnered over 1 million hits.
