Question for all of the Southern Popples...

Does anyone know of any good spots within 8 or so hours from here that would be good for a weekend trip?

That leaves New Orleans (which we've been to half a dozen times in the past few months & his newest game is going to be based out of NO so we'll be making more trips down there soon enough), the Gulf coast region, Atlanta, Chattanooga, Memphis, Gatlinburg, Huntsville (I was thinking the boys might enjoy the space center there), places in Arkansas, and all the areas around there.

Jakob and Brandon are both out for spring break next week. We were supposed to go visit the ILs for half the week, but she had a work trip come up suddenly so we're waiting until Easter break to go visit now. Jason took off Sunday & Monday - so he's off Friday-Monday. We thought we'd take a quick trip this weekend since we haven't had a trip just for us in a while.

The problem is...I don't know if there's stuff the boys will be able to do & have fun doing it in any of these places. I know the incline, alpine slides & aquarium, Rock City/Ruby Falls (they've been to those) in Chattanooga - but that's about it. We took them to the Memphis Zoo last year & we've been to the Birmingham Zoo several times.... I was thinking Atlanta had the new amusement park for kids next to Six Flags and then the Atlanta Zoo - but I don't really know what else is around there to keep them busy.

Anyway...thanks in advance for any help! We always just travel to see the ILs or to go to football games in New Orleans - so planning a trip for family fun is lost on me! lol

sorry, I looked at the map wrong. I actually live in Birmingham. I bet it will be fun up there this time of year. Have a great spring break!

Oh...you live around Columbus, running girl? Small world! He booked us a cabin in Gatlinburg. He won't show it to me though. :( lol I don't like surprises like that!

Hey Wynter! ATL and Gatlinburg both sound fun. If you end up going anywhere in Arkansas (even if it's on a later trip), be sure and let me know and I'll find out some local scoop on fun things for kids. Hope your trip turns out great!

I live in your town too and think Atlanta might be fun. You can also include the new Aquarium there if you need something else to do. I have heard it is great but may be a little crowded with it being spring break.

I love Pensacola....but have no desire to go to any of the other cities on the panhandle.

hey its my 1st comment after so long! whatver you do don't go to destin fl. i just moved to pensacola nad my cousin told us to take the girls there but it's awful. we went there for my cousin's wedding and it was horrible and trashy. then again thats' because the wedding sucked so bad but that s' awhole another storey. that aws the worst wedidng ever. but don't go to destin. the entire panhandle sucks. i wish i was back in delaware.

I LOVED the coke museum, the new aquarium is on my list to visit this summer and there is no end of random stuff you can do in ATL. And it was 69 in Knoxville today,I put the top down, the weather is gorgeous, I hope it stays like this!

I think you should come to the city I live. :) I don't want to mention the name here, since your blog is public, and I live in a small city. I can always pm it to you...if your interested. :) Okay, we have white sugary sand beaches (that have been voted the most beautiful in the world), a pretty big water park, put-put, race-track cars (little cars), tons of restaurants with fresh seafood with plenty of indoor & outdoor seating, gorgeous sunsets and sunrises, and some pretty cool shopping for people who live out-of-town. Oh, we do get some spring break people, but not a TON like other places close by (it's too expensive for teenagers..Thank goodness).

It is nice in ATL right now....it's supposed to get to 67 today! Too bad I am enroute to Cincinnasti.

Here's what she said...but the best part is they'll get to see their uncle (who they love) & their aunt. :) There's the zoo (which is free): www.stlzoo.org There's the art museum (well, kind of kid friendly, but definitely free): www.stlouis.art.museum There's the Science Center: www.slsc.org (I think there is just a parking charge). The MO Botantical Gardens (minimal charge): www.mobot.org There's also the city museum which is absolutely amazing for both kids and adult: www.citymuseum.org And, of course, the Arch: www.gatewayarch.com There's tons of cool ethnic food places

ohh...hyper kids! Fun! That's when we take them to the zoo and wear them out! lol Memphis would be a fun trip if it were just me & hubby, but since we just took them to the zoo last summer (and they remember it well), I'm not sure if the boys would enjoy it too much. Crap - someone on another board just mentioned St. Louis. I forgot about there & there's definitely a lot for the kids to do. It's 7 hours, and BIL/SIL live really close so that's definiely a perk since we haven't seen them in a few months. Now instead of not thinking of anywhere to go, I'm wanting to go to a bunch of places...lol

I LOVE Savannah, I don't know what all would be there for the boys. But it sounds like ATL is perfect and I like ATL too! :)

Memphis! DUH!! Yeah they still have the duckies in the hotel! My dad went there for work & brought home some pics & duckie stuff for me! ATL is a great idea, imo. Tons of stuff to do & loads of shopping :) I went to the Coke factory when i was in 8th grade & I'll never forget the huge room w/ all the experimental flavors to try. we were all sooo jacked on sugar!
