REVIEW: Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight and Pantene Texturize

First Im going to start with Herbal Essences Dangerously Straight Shampoo and Conditioner

I was looking for a new shampoo and conditioner because I was kind of tired of my John Frieda Brilliant Brunette. I have been having a problem of keeping my hair straight since I have to ride my bike to school now so I thought I would give Herbal Essences a shot

First off I love the smell but then again what is Herbal Essences without the great smell. Also both the shampoo and conditioner are pink in color just like the bottle. Now on to the good stuff does it straighten....yes and no. I let my hair air dry and I did notice a touch of difference. It is not as crazy and frizzy. The stuff does make straightening my hair with a flat iron A LOT easier and it leaves my hair super soft. However during the day my hair still gets poofy and doesn't stay perfectly straight. Overall I think it is a great product

I give it 4 out of 5 stars

Now on to the new Pantene Texturize line. I have tried 3 of the products from this line in hope of giving my layers some definition and hold

I'll start with the worst

3. The Spray Wax

The directions say to shake well (I keep forgetting to do this), spray on to wet hair and scrunch for beach waves. I havent done this yet. Or you can spray onto dry hair and tousle your layers for definition- this I have done. This stuff leaves my hair hard and sticky. It doesn't define my layers that well and leaves my hair untouchable Barf! And it hurts to run a brush through my hair afterwards. Im still experimenting with this one so maybe my opinion will change but for now Im giving this

2 out of 5 stars

2. The next product I tried was the Texturize Ultra Hold Hairspray

Man does this HOLD!!! It is an aerosol spray. It really does hold. The only downside is it leaves my hair a little tacky feeling. However it is easier to run a brush or my fingers through than the spray wax. Im giving three out of 5 stars because it does have great hold but not the best texture

Now the winner of the line is.........

1. The Moussing Foam Wax!!!

I LOVE this stuff. You use it like any normal mousse. You can put it in wet hair and blow dry or you can apply it to dry hair (which is what I do). You apply the amount you want and rub it in your hands until it is a thin layer then apply. I like to rake it through my hair for definition with a little movement. I also I like to combine it with what little amount of John Frieda Ocean Waves Spray (damn you John for discontinuing this stuff it was heaven) and scrunch it into my hair for a little wave. It has great hold and doesn't feel as tacky as the other products. Also I dont know about the shiny finish they are claiming it will give you cause I never get it. This stuff is great Im giving it 4 out of 5 stars

WARNING with any of the Pantene products you HAVE to wash your hands afterwards because they all contain wax and leave your hands with a coating

Good to know. Thanks for the reviews.

I am curious about the herbal essence stuff now. If it does straighten some so you don't have to use as much product later- awesome. I usually don't have time to dry my hair and just applying product after washing doesn't quite get me a 'tame' look. At least my kids don't mind! I am waiting on a free sample (walmart) of the texturize JF stuff. The mouse sounds cool. Thanks!!

Well, b & b is actually REALLY expensive, but other lines carry similar products. Shop around! I buy the b & b because I only use it on my bangs, so it costs $39 but lasts me a really long while. But, I bet even drugstore lines carry something similar if you want to just give the concept a test run...

I have never even heard of bumble & bumble Straight :jawdrop: I'll definitely have to check that out.

Jess - If I don't run bumble & bumble Straight through my hair before using the flat iron, I end up with waves by the end of the day. Do you use a product like that? If not, it might help your hair stay straight all day.

*conditioner, even.

I use Herbal Essences in the green bottle with Pantene Ice Shine condition and their leave in spray conditioner, and my hair is a little less poofy and a LOT less oily than when I was using Pantene shampoo. Hubby uses the Pantene frizz serum, and while it did absolutely nothing for me it works great for him. *shrug*

I am currently using the Herbal Essences Hello Hydration shampoo and conditioner; it smells great and makes my hair really soft and moisturized. I think that I have some of the DS finishing spray in the cabinet but I haven't used it yet. I will have to give it a try soon since you gave it such rave reviews Jess.

Thanks Jess I'll definitely try the finishing spray then :)

OH that reminds me I tried the DS hairspray and finishing spray awhile ago. The hairspray did NOTHING for me but the finishing spray is great!! I would spray it on before I flat ironed and it felt my hair silky smooth and soft. Also it worked as a heat protector DS finishing spray good DS hairspray bad (at least for me)

A few months ago I tried the Paul Mitchell Super Skinny shampoo and daily treatment. That one claimed to straighten hair and cut down drying time. It sort of did but my hair felt dry and nasty. I can't believe that we can send people into outer space, use wireless communication from every nook and cranny on the globe, perform surgery with tiny cameras, and so on, but they haven't yet perfected a frizzy hair treatment. Most don't work and the ones that do work TOO well... my hair gets all flat and oily.

I'm with you on the Brilliant Brunette, Whip - I used it for about a week before ditching it. Jess - thanks for the review. I have really thick, frizzy hair, and I'm always looking for any product that might come close to taming the beast. :) I'll give this a shot.

I was going to try their Color Me Happy but they only had conditioner at the store. I would definitely smell it first though to see if you like it

Maybe I'll try the Herbal Essences next. I tried the John Frieda Brilliant Brunette shampoo a few years ago... it was the WORST smelling shampoo I'd ever tried.
