Social Network, Kids Are All Right Win Big Movie Awards at Globes

By Brian Orloff

A king with a stutter; a ballet dancer driven to the brink of madness; a lesbian mom; and a nebbishy television producer – those were the diverse roles that won this year's crop of stars their best actor and actress trophies at Sunday's Golden Globes.

This year, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association shared the wealth, divvying up acting and best picture awards among the many different nominees.

The Social Network was named best motion picture drama at the ceremony, and ultimately earned four awards at the show, the most of any film. The Kids Are All Right picked up best motion picture comedy, with Annette Bening named best actress in a comedy for her role as Nic, a doctor, who has children with Julianne Moore's free-spirited character.

Colin Firth was named best actor in a drama for his role as King George VI in The King's Speech, while Natalie Portman won her second Golden Globe, but first as a leading actress, for Black Swan.

Paul Giamatti picked up best actor in a comedy for Barney's Version.

Going into Sunday's ceremony, The King's Speech led with seven nominations, but earned just one win – for Firth.

The Kids Are All Right earned two awards, as did The Fighter, which was recognized in the supporting acting categories for its stars Melissa Leo and Christian Bale.

I wanted Black Swan to win but Social Network was a good movie too (the king's speech too). Boarwalk Empire totally worth it. Best tv series of the decade so far!
