OK, I have to go next week for a 2 hour test to have my blood sugar tested. Can anyone fill me in?

Usually the 3 hour test is after you fail the 1 hour so I'm sure you know about the orange soda. The bottomline, I think, is that a lot of people will fail the one hour and then pass the 3 hour. If you do fail the 3 hour then you will be diagnosed with Gestational Diabetes and they change your diet. Only danger to baby is that he will have weird glucose levels at birth and possibly be a little heavier than normal. Not a *huge* deal, but it will affect your diet, so enjoy your bread! Oh yea, I took a portable DVD player, too, this last time - it made the wait a lot better - and I passed the 3 hour. ;)

Yeah, I agree. THis little bottle of warm orange flavored soda that is so sickeningly sweet! Yuck. Bring a book, too.

Not bad- just gross orange soda.

Yeah - save the sprinkle doughnuts for after the test! That was my misttake during the 1 hour test that caused the need for the retest. You may actually need to fast for the extended test - you may want to check with your dr.

Prepare yourself, it's like warm sweet orange soda...bring something to read or otherwise occupy yourself, otherwise, not so bad

I don't have much to add to Jen's post other than to advise that you don't eat pancakes and syrup with a big glass of OJ for breakfast. A good bit of sugar intake before the appointment will definitely throw off your results. Good luck! (I hate needles - pregnancy was a blast! :rotfl:)

I actually had to go for the three hour glucose test when I was pregnant. It isn't bad - you just drink this drink they give you every hour for three hours and then they draw blood four times. Once at teh beginning and then every subsequent hour. I would recommend bringing something to read - or watch if you have a portable DVD player (I watched Walk the Line during my test) because you can't leave and you definitely will be bored staring at the wall.
