(in no particular order)

1) Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, 2001 - This animated fantasy movie based on the popular video game series deals with an alien invasion and ends with a peaceful solution. It has some amazing voice actors, like Ming-na and Donald Sutherland.
2) Constantine, 2005 - Keanu Reeves plays a demon slayer in this comic-book turned movie, which also stars Rachel Weisz.
3) Wall-E, 2008 - Probably the only movie on my list that the whole family could watch and fully enjoy. I love the environmental messages in this sweet movie.
4) Star Trek, 2009 - This newly-cast movie in the Star Trek franchise is one of my favorite movies of the year. Based in part on the great acting choices, I look forward to the next movie as well.
5) Lathe of Heaven, 2002 - The film adaptation of Ursula K. Leguin's book has such a great tagline: "His dreams control our destiny, but who controls his dreams." This movie stars Lisa Bonet and James Caan. I think this is one of the great, classic sci-fi films out there.
6) A Scanner Darkly, 2006 - Another Kanu Reeves film on my list...it also stars Winona Rider
7) V for Vendetta, 2006 - Even if this movie was bad I would watch it anyway because of the actors in it: Natalie Portman and Hugo Weaving.
8 ) X-Men Trilogy, 2000-2006 - Many of my favorite Marvel characters come to life in this trilogy.
9) Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow, 2004 - This is such a fun movie, starring Gwyneth Paltrow, Jude Law and Angelina Jolie, to name a few.
10) Watchmen, 2009 - Another graphic novel-turned movie, this one received mixed reviews, but I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of it.
11) The Lord of the Rings trilogy, 2001-2003 - I loved the years that this trilogy came out, with all the great promo posters and videos, toys and this fantastic set of movies that everyone seemed to be watching. These movies are still the most memorable theatre experiences of my life - all 5 times that I saw them!
12) How's Moving Castle, 2004 - Hayao Miyazaki directed this Studio Ghibli movie adaptation of Diana Wynne Jones's novel.
13) Spirited Away, 2001/2 - Another Studio Ghibli movie. A 10 year old girl journeys in to an alternate fantasy world and has many interesting adventures on her way back to reality.
14) Stranger than Fiction, 2006 - Emma Thompson is perfect as an author-gone-crazy and Will Farrel is great as a guy who thinks he is hearing Thompson's voice.
15) The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe, 2005 - This remains one of my favorite movies of all time. I grew up watching the tv series and was happy with this film adaptation of the books/shows.
16) Hell Boy 1 & 2, 2004/2008
17) Serenity, 2005 - If there couldn't be more Firefly, then I am happy to have this movie to rewatch!
I also love all the Harry Potter films to varying degrees, the Librarian movies, Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind, Pan's Labyrinth, Stardust, The Fall, and Enchanted.

It is pretty clear that you did not read the post carefully - this is a list of my FAVORITE movies, not 'best' which is pretty subjective anyway. besides, if you looked at the list you would see that LOTR IS on the list! I absolutely hate the Twilight series, so it doesn't make any difference to me whether or not they "brought in a lot of money."
