Buzz's 20 Favorite Movies of the Decade

As we come to the close of another year, I've been counting down the best in entertainment from over the past 12 months. But let's not forget that we're also celebrating the end of the decade, so you know what that means — a recap of the top music, movies, and TV from 2000-2009! There have been so many creative, smart, and fun choices to keep me busy that it's hard to decide which ones deserve top honors. So beginning with films, here are my favorites, in no particular order. (If you don't agree — or if you'd like to submit your own top five, 10, or 20 — you can do so in the Buzz Best of the Decade Group)!

@Anonymous Superbad? No country for old men? Benjamin Button? Borat and broke back mountain? Being gay doesn't give you license to say what movies are good. Don't see any of these movies unless you need to go to sleep early tonight.

You do all realize that this list is someone's opinion? If you don't like the list, make your own...

You people sure have a lot of time on your hands. What's your top 10 genocides of the decade? mine begins with the unfettered abortion that is Harry Potter.

40-Year-Virgin? Really? Wow, Carell is more over-rated then I thought. Otherwise not a bad list. Harry Potter, of course made it there on hype alone - don't get me wrong, the movies aren't bad, especially for movies that are based on a book (most of those suck), but to say that you couldn't find a movie that was better in the last 10 years... Right... Oh, and PS - the decade isn't over until the end of 2010. Unless of course you're ok with calling the first 9 years a "decade"...

How can any list not including "Downfall" be credible?
4 years 37 weeks
Sorry, but your list is crap...

well, i would maybe push myself to go with half the movies here. but yes, Requiem for a dream and Crash as others before me pointed out, cant afford to be left out. Also, among the ones i've seen, i thought 'The last king of Scotland', 'Million Dollar Baby' and 'A beautiful mind' were splendid. definitely missed out other worthy ones which i havent seen too. I think a revision is due.

Let's see... Mainly popular blockbusters I realize (with one or two exceptions), but these are the movies that gave me the greatest joy as a film-goer and that I've been able to watch over and over since. Sure sign of a "best" list for me! 1. The Lord of the Rings Trilogy (sorry, just can't split them up) 2. Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind 3. Brokeback Mountain 4. Kiss Kiss Bang Bang (under-appreciated jewel of the decade!) 5. Star Trek 6. Pan's Labyrinth 7. Iron Man 8. Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl 9. Avatar 10-16. All 7 Pixar films (impossible to choose just one!) 17-20. Harry Potter Series (well, 3 - 6 anyway)

Re: calendars - Since our standard calendar began with Year One (NOT the movie! ;^)) rather than Year Zero, the First Century was not completed until the end of Year 101. With that confusing start, our 21st century did not start until 1/1/2001. The first decade of the 21st century won't be completed until midnight 12/31/2010. HOWEVER, the convention of grouping decades by like second digit (e.g. 90s, 80s, etc.) has no relationship to the correct calendar decade, so this coming New Year's celebration will correctly end the '00s, or "double-aughts" (like buckshot), as I like to call 'em! ;^) Happy New Year!

WHY does everyone keep referring to the last decade when it won't be over until the END of 2010???!??!?!?!?!?
4 years 38 weeks
Reprise.

Any list that doesn't include Mulholland Drive is a farce by definition.

But, if the decade started Jan. 2000 and ends Jan 2011, that would be eleven, not ten years. So, no, the decade ends Jan 2010....anyway, I would not put mean girls on there at all, and I definitely would include No Country for Old Men. American Psycho needs to be on there too, in my opinion, but no Batman Begins. District 9, as well! And I definitely agree with Old Boy.

Stupid people - The decade isn't over until the end of 2010!

They released a really superficial list. These have all been mentioned already, but here's some more appropriate titles...obviously I don't think that they should all be on a favorites list, as it is totally subjective, but I would have liked to have seen some of these instead of mediocre blockbusters like the Harry Potter series, the 40 Year Old Virgin, or Mean Girls (especially instead of Mean Girls...). City of God Pan's Labyrinth Mulholland Drive The Diving Bell And The Butterfly No Country For Old Men Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon Children of Men The Pianist Oldboy Let the Right One In Requiem For a Dream Cache I would throw in "The Fall" and "The Proposition" as well, but that's my personal taste. Also, I saw someone throwing hate at Lost In Translation. To each his own, but that movie is a gem if I've ever seen one. Seeing "Mean Girls" in a top of the decade list has really hurt my conscience. Then again this list means jack and squat in the grand scheme of how the public will view this last decade's films, so I can only hope it will be different than how this article sees things.

Finding Nemo was way better than Wall-E IMO....

Buzz, as much as I love these recaps, clicking thru slideshows is really annoying! I end up reading much less stuff than I'd like, I'm not sure this is what you guys were going for...

Avatar?? This movie is in top 20 of the decade only for trolls. Its script is at a level apt for teenagers and any movie watched in 3D offers similar excitement. Oh and I forgot to include "Oldboy" - an exceptional cinematic feast/beast.

No Avatar. This guy is a troll.

The one film I disagree with on the list is The Departed. The film is overrated and it's winning the Oscar was just a cancellation prize for it's director.
4 years 39 weeks
Now that I think about it, what happened to Donnie Darko? That was the best movie of the decade and it's not on here? What is this, a list of the movies that made the most money?
4 years 39 weeks
That may be the worst list I have ever seen. Ocean's 11, Mean Girls, Brokeback Mountain, Pursuit of Happiness HAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

Oh, and anonymous, comment 22, you're wrong. The new millennium began in 2001. The century began in 2001. But the decade began in 2000. Think about it. You're saying that 2000 was in "the 90's". And 1990 would then be in "the 80's". And I was born in 1980. So I guess according to you I was born in the 70's, eh? Sounds pretty absurd when I say it like that.
4 years 39 weeks
Well, 40 year old Virgin surely should NOT belong here. Mean girls, what??? I'd include Cache (Hidden), Children of Men surely, Kingdom of Heaven (uncut version) and NOT Gladiator, 500 days of Summer, Donnie Darko, The taste of others (French), 4 (Russian), Mulholland Drive, Match Point, Kill Bill 2, Pan's Labyrinth and yes, the first Pirates of the Caribbean. So I guess my list would be very different.
