What are some inexpensive date ideas?

John and I have been stuck in a rut lately, one which I am desperate to pull us out of. There never seems to be money to do very much, so we always end up sitting around the house, usually me reading a book and him watching tv all day on the weekends. Boring! I really want to get out of the house, or at least do something different, but it always seems to be up to me to take the initiative and actually make things happen. (Is it just my husband? Are others like this as well?)

But I need some ideas! We're seriously low on the cash funds, especially with his surgery coming up, but I am bound and determined to get a little spice back into our lives these next two weekends before his tonsils finally come out.

Any suggestions?

My weather is killing all my plans! But I definitely wouldn't mind going into downtown Baltimore and just hanging out, enjoying the Inner Harbor and whatnot.

Oh wait...your weather doesn't sound like that's going to work :(

I totally feel you. We're such homebodies, but sometimes we just have to get out, and depending on funds, have such a hard time deciding what to do that plenty of times we'll just end up staying in anyway :D I don't know much about Baltimore (that's where you are, right?), but what we do sometimes, and love it, is drive downtown or somewhere with a lot of interesting buildings and whatever, and just walk around and sort of enjoy where we are and our surroundings.

Something similar, but we're supposed to get some nasty sleet/wintry mix on Friday, so I'm worried that'll put the kibosh on my plans!

I think it is supposed to be in the upper 30s around here.. should be around the same there??

I know. It would definitely get me off my butt. We've got a local county park that we haven't really had a chance to explore, but I need to see when it's actually open... And I need to check the weather! Hmmm, "Mostly cloudy and not as cold with a chance for a rain or snow shower" - hopefully it'll stay mostly cloudy!

A hike would be awesome.

We're usually homebodies too - and I don't really mind that for the most part. But lately, I just have this urge to get him off the couch and me away from a book and actually DO SOMETHING! I told him that when network tv comes back on, I don't want to be plunked in front of the couch every night watching and he gave me this look like I was insane! But we did a puzzle last night, so that broke up the monotony a little bit. Thinking about taking a hike this weekend, depends on the weather...

My husband and I are the same way on the weekends! We are such homebodies. We usually work out together, eat lunch together, watch some TV, take the dog to the DOg Park, clean together, then go shopping together, then eat dinner, then watch a movie. hahaha we are so routine!

kiwi - I'd be naked in 5 minutes, I swear! I'm no good at Monopoly! But maybe Strip Trivial Pursuit...:)

Buy some board game and play some strip Monopoly ;-) Board games are fun... if you want to be more active I am clueless with the cold weather. A lot of people brought up some good suggestions though.

Hmmm, hubby and I love to go to our local bowling alley and watch sports games there. They have huge screen T.V.'s and we usually order a couple of appetizers. We also enjoy taking walks around the reservoir next to our place, then stopping at Starbucks for our favorite coffee drink. We sometimes see what other married couples are doing on a Friday night and we bring our Texas Hold Em case with us and play for hours. You can do the same with any other game you guys enjoy.

Well, we don't have much of a backyard, so that's out, but I like the driving range idea! I'm not very good, but maybe he can put his arms around me and "teach me" :)

Some good ideas! Depends on the weather for a few of them. These days, I never seem to know what the temp will be day to day. A hike would be a great idea! And I could totally go for a hot tub. :) I'll check out the citysearch. Books - everytime I bring up a wine tasting, becuz there are usually a ton around here, I get the standard "I don't really like wine" answer...

Once Mr. Books and I dragged our futon mattress into the backyard and "camped out." Then we drove to the top deck of the parking lot at my office building, and watched the sun come up. We also go to the driving range! A bucket of balls is only a few bucks and lasts the two of us 30 min to an hour.

Oh, the Chamber of Commerce website should list attractions in your area. Hike a trail at the park??

Go to an indoor swimming pool! Usually they are only like $10 tops to get in and you can use the hot tub or sauna or steam room together :)

I used to keep a running list of "inexpensive date ideas" years ago but now have no idea where it is. Oh wait, yeah I do! But I don't have it with me here at work anyway. I'll look for it tonight and come back again tomorrow. From what I can remember.. Check your citisearch for free events and exhibitions/tours There are some inexpensive wine tastings around (at least around here anyway) Drive-in movie theater, bring your own snacks Hmm let me think some more..

Shiloh - I have a feeling that I'd never be able to drag my husband to a salsa dancing class, no matter how hard I begged. I'll definitely look around and see if I see anything in the burbs of Baltimore this weekend for free. There's gotta be something! princesskitty - It's been fairly cold here, still hovering around 40. Brr! My husband, of course, does not feel cold, so maybe if the temps go up a little this weekend we can go on an outdoor picnic! Is it sad that the only thing I can think of at the moment is a flea market in my town??? Could find some cheap stuff for our new house though...

Is there a scenic route that you could drive? Maybe take some food and have a in car picnic? (Or out of car, if you live somplace warm! lol) _________________________ "I can’t believe it." "That is why you fail." :yoda:

Any museum exhibitions in your town that you both would be interested in seeing? All cities usually have their own website where they list all the activities available and indicate if you need to buy a ticket or are free. Same thing with the community centers. Just last week hubby and I attended this Salsa Dancing Class at our community center by a professional dancer and it was free, they even served refreshments. It was A LOT of fun!! _________________________ We are shaped and fashioned by what we love. - Goethe
