Buh-Bye, Gym! Tips For Transitioning From the Treadmill to the Road

Where Do You Run the Most?

The great thing about running is you can do it just about anywhere — even in pools! There are so many different places you can run, and each has its merits. The sidewalk is safe, the asphalt of the street is forgiving, the track lives up to its helps you keep track of your pace and distance, a treadmill lives in a climate controlled zone, and trails are just more fun. While I love running on trails fairly close to my house, I find driving to exercise a bit silly, so mostly I run in the streets because my knees like asphalt more than concrete. What about you?

Pretty much out my door unlimited dirt roads to run on,I don't do much on the streets except to and from the dirt seems to save on the joints!

I have to say I'm lucky to live nearby ALL of the above, but I love trails! I'm lucky to have a couple nice parks nearby, so I don't have to drive to get to them. It's about a mile away, so any run over 3 miles - I try to run through a park. There is also an old "trolley line" that runs by my apartment and a canal towpath 2 miles away, and we have a network of neighborhoods surrounding my apartment. My gym is my grad school alma mater and is only a short drive away (I prefer not to run on the treadmill though!) I don't think I'm going to be able to move ever!!

I love running the trails. I do have to drive about 3 miles to get to them but in this concrete city, it's worth the drive to run in a place surrounded by trees and grass.

Ever since I fell in the road and cut up my face, I have been sticking to the treadmill. It's just safer, I guess.

I'm a pavement princess =) lol. But I do enjoy trail running, I just don't like running them by myself. I always worry about if I run into someone or since the woods behind my house are popular for hunting (bow and arrow) I don't want to get mistaken for a deer.

I mostly run sidewalks around my neighborhood. There are a few great trails in the area, but I feel kind of weird driving somewhere in order to run.

I recently started running outdoors (sidewalks, streets) because the weather is a bit cooler now here in Florida, but I mainly (3-4 days a week) run on a treadmill. Hopefully soon I will be running outdoors always (except during poor weather).
