There are many ways to get a dog nowadays and with all the news about puppy mills, it is important to make sure that you are doing the right thing. Which one did you choose?
She got sprayed by a skunk and followed me home from the bar one night when I was wasted, and her owners never came forward to claim her, so I kept her.
A close friend of ours breeds Beagles for himself and a select few for hunting. Our best dog ever, Little Man was one of his and we got him because he licked my toes through my sandals and I fell in love!!! Our Maya, the Beagle we have now ( Little Man R.I.P. 7/05 )was a hunting dog reject. She's near sighted and would never run with the other dogs to chase rabbits or other small game. So we got her because she needed a good home!!! She's such a sweet heart!
I always purchase mine from a breeder. I had two bad experiences with shelter pups. Both times they tried to bite me. With children in the home, I was taking any chances. This doesn't mean you shouldn't buy from a shelter. I just can't choose good ones through a shelter, I guess.
my dad found my dog, which is prolly abandoned...i have her for about 6 or 7 yrs now...she is just the most adorable!!!
if i ever get another dog i will adopt.
Oh, and neither of them came from a puppy mill. Pet store, yes, but one came from a breeder in New York and the other came from one in Missouri. The store only works with breeders. Long story, but it's a great (and rare) place.
I get all my dogs from breeders that I know. I wouldn't have a problem with a shelter dog if I didn't care what kind of temperant I would get. That is my ONLY issue... you don't know the dogs personality traits. I would have no problem getting a 'purebred' dog from a rescue though.
I had been planning on getting a Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, when Maximus came into my life. Someone in my office had bought him and soon after realized all the hard work that a puppy can be and decided to give him up. I offered to reimburse her for all medical costs that she had incurred and give him a loving forever home and it has been heaven ever since! Despite having a million and one health and emotional problems, he has definitely been worth every second and penny spent. There is nothing like the love of a puppy who knows he has been given a second chance!
Where did you get your dog?
