Okay so we're not about to try anything with Baby J yet but I am curious what others did and when. How much success did you have and when did you start?
I'm not sure what I did. We honestly never really had a problem when it was time for bed. My family has some really heavy and strong sleepers. And babies are not immune. It is seriously a gift! :rotfl:
I think one thing we did that helped us in the long run was that I never let her fall sleep while nursing. I would wake her up and talk to her so that she always would be alert and then put herself to sleep.
Nearly two years later I have a child who tells me when she wants to go up to her cribby for bed and once she is in there is asleep in minutes and sleeps for a solid 10-12 hours straight.
Is Ferber the one where you kiss them good night and then leave and let them cry, but each time stretch out the intervals when you come back? We tried this with my first son, and it didn't work, but my son was kind of a nutball when it came to sleep. Our pediatrician said to just go in there, kiss him good night and don't come back until morning. We couldn't do that, either. My son learned to puke on command. He would start screaming when we left and then make himself puke when we left. It was horrible. Each night we'd have to go in there, change sheets, pj's, he'd even get it on the carpet. In the end, it just took time and we just stayed with him until he got sleepy then left. I wouldn't try any Ferber methods until the baby's ready, I don't remember what age it says to start. My friend swore by a book called BabyWise. You may have to try a few different techniques to find one that works for you guys and that you are comfortable with. Just trust your gut, and if something doesn't feel right, go with your feelings, not a book. I know it sucks, we've all been there. Good luck!
Which Sleep Method did you use - Ferberize? Pantley? Dr. Sears?
