Is there anything that will get red kool-aid type stains out of carpet?

I took the boys to the park today, and it's SO hot that we stopped and got icees on the way home. Brandon just had to have the cherry flavor.

Well, on the way home, we have several 4 way stops. On one of them, I stopped, started going, and a man just barrelled through his without stopping. I'm lucky I saw him with the way the road is. I slammed on my breaks, avoided us hitting, but Brandon's icee went flying out of his hands into my light gray car floorboard. As soon as we got home, I tried cleaning it out, and it's no longer bright red, but the pink is still all over the carpet. :(

Is there anything to get this out? This is really the first stain we have in it, and of course, it would be a major one. :sigh:

Well, it's still pink but it looks A LOT better. I think we're just going to pick up some mats for the back too.

I will never understand the following: harsh dyes in kids drinks sippy cups that outright lie when they say they are spillproof (they obviously did not test them on my children) red dye in children's cold medicine that tastes so horrible you cannot blame them for spitting it out onto their clothes, bedding or carpet. What the hell!!

Thanks girls. Jason drove it up to the car cleaner place - they have steam cleaners and chemical cleaners. Hopefully they can get it out. I learned one lesson - no red or orange liquids (or frozen drinks) in the car!

Hot water and OxyClean. It's good for everything from skunk stink (just ask my sister's dog) to Kool Aid. Just not for oily stains, but it should be fine for yours.

The hubs and I own a carpet cleaning franchise and he has to pull out the big guns for kool-aid (its worse then red wine). It is toough to get out. I might try Stain Extingisher from Home Depot, but anything over the counter may not be strong enough. Worse comes to worse try a professional carpet cleaner and ask for a stain out treatment.

I just checked out that site you posted MOMO. It has some really great tips!I have a few expensive area rugs around my house(no stains or spills so far) plus i have a 6yr old so this helps out enormously. Thanks for sharing!

That rubbing alcohol this is always hit or miss with me. Once it totally removed the pen stain, the other time it made it worse. WTF!? I think its best if the ink is completely dry... Also, does baking soda help remove stains? Or does it merely clean carpets?

Great link, Jamers! That sounds like it would really work!

Well, it doesn't have super-dyed food on the list, but for ink it says to blot with rubbing alcohol making sure to use a clean spot of fabric each time. And then rinse with water once ink is gone. Hope that helps!

Well I am glad you and the kids are safe! That obviously is the priority. But boy does it put a wrinkle in my panties when something happens to my car (I once got dog doo on my shoe in the middle of a paved parking lot and trudged it into my car which was three months old at the time, purchased new, and I was PISSED). I would Google a remedy, as I dont know any off the top of my head. I just scrubbed the hell out of my floor mat, but that was made easy for me since I could actually take that out of my car. Perhaps there is a carpet shampoo you could use?

http://ezinearticles.com/?Kool-Aid-Stains-In-Carpet---Removing-Them&id=63042 Go to that site, it's got some good ideas!! :( sorry that happened! One time Cory spilled my red toe nail polish on this tan carpet here and I was so desperate to get it out, I just used my finger nail polish remover and it got it right out!!!!!!!! Didn't even ruin the carpet!!! Course, that wouldn't work with kool aid...but click on that site!!!!

Oh man, Wynter! What a bummer. Glad you managed to avoid a collision, though. I've had success with hydrogen peroxide and red wine. No idea if it would work with icee stain, though. Lemme go check my How To Clean Just About Anything book....
